Of course you don’t need a special day to express your love. But you know that you need to do something romantic on Valentine’s Day. What if you wanted to travel somewhere on February, 14th but you or your love interest couldn’t leave country? Or you are tired of this holiday and you want to experience something extraordinary? TravelPapa is always here to help! Let us introduce to you some of the most interesting Love-Related Holidays from around the world.
South Korea – 14th Day of Every Month
South Koreans are so romantic that they celebrate love on 14th of every month. Each month has a love-related theme. For example, if February 14th is a Valentine’s Day and according to Korean traditions women are giving presents to men, March 14th is a White Day – a day when gentlemen are giving presents to ladies. Also there is April’s Black Day. On that day, singles are coming together to share their loneliness over the bowl of Jajangmyeon noodles (they are black). On June 14th there’s Kiss Day (by the way we have a “Share Your Travel Kiss” Contest Running, you got to check it out!). In August you can take your significant other outside to celebrate Green Day. In October there’s wine day and on 14th of November there’s Movie Day. And don’t forget about Hug Day in December! Anyway, you won’t run out of ideas of how to surprise your romantic interest all year round.
Argentina - Sweetness Week
Besides Valentine’s Day Argentina celebrates the first week of July. In 1989 there was a very successful marketing campaign created by the famous candy brand. The main slogan was “A candy for a kiss”. Almost 30 years later people are still exchanging kisses for sweets. From June 1st you can see promotion of this event everywhere in Argentina – billboards, television, newsstands and of course candy shops. They say that candy sales increase up to 20% on this week. But it is not just a marketing trick, it is a very SWEET tradition.

Czech Republic - Day of Love
For centuries Czechs were celebrating 1st of May as the Day of Love. And while in the whole world it is International Labor Day for Czech Republic the first day of May is the most romantic day of the year. This ancient holiday comes with a very interesting tradition.
The evening before, single males go in the woods to cut down a tall tree. Then they cut off all the branches and decorate the trunk. They set the maypole in the center of the village and guard it. At night a group of unmarried young men goes to the neighboring villages to steel the maypole. It’s kind of a competition between villages. On the next day, the villagers who kept their tree can walk around their neighborhood and single girls give them little presents.
But nowadays the main tradition on the Day of Love is to kiss under the blooming cherry tree to bring good luck for the coming year.
Brazil - Dia dos Namorados
Dia dos Namorados or The Day Of Enamored is celebrated the day before Saint Anthony’s Day, on June 12. It is believed that Saint Anthony was blessing young couples with a long and joyful marriage. Dia dos Namorados is very similar to the Valentine’s Day – couples are exchanging gifts, flowers or sweets.
The main reason why Brazil doesn’t celebrate the Valentine’s Day is because 14th of February often falls during the Festival week.
