Finnair Broadens Its Geography of Online Check-In

The mobile boarding pass now can be used at Madrid, Oslo, Riga and Warsaw airports

When passengers check in online to Finnair scheduled flights departing from Madrid, Oslo, Riga and Warsaw, they can now send the check-in confirmation as a text message to their own mobile phone. The SMS includes a link to a mobile boarding pass.

The text message check-in service for Finnair Plus members is also extended to include the above mentioned cities. Finnair Plus members can easily check in by replying to a check-in message sent by Finnair, after which they receive a confirmation message to their mobile phone.

The mobile boarding pass can already be used when boarding Finnair and Finncomm Airlines domestic and international scheduled flights departing from Finland, as well as for scheduled international flights departing from Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, London, Manchester, Paris Prague, Stockholm and Vilnius – also when the journey includes a connecting scheduled flight with Finnair or Finncomm Airlines from Helsinki.

The confirmation message includes a link to a mobile boarding pass

On departure from all other above mentioned airports, except on departure from Finland and Sweden, the mobile boarding pass is shown to the authorities. The mobile boarding pass can be opened through a link included in the message. The phone has to be equipped with a functioning Internet connection.

If the customer is unable to open the link, he or she is advised to pick up a paper boarding pass from the check-in desk. In Finland and Sweden the passenger only needs to show the SMS confirmation message at airport service points.

Example of confirmation message with a link to the mobile boarding pass:

FINNAIR confirmed check-in: Early Jack AY840 LHR-HEL 04.11.2009 departure 16:00, gate opens at 15:40, seat 17A window. Mobile boarding pass http://mbp.finnair.com/112449oz8fixvp0arlr07yxfgjs2. Pick up a paper boarding pass at the baggage drop desk if you are unable to open the mobile boarding pass.

Operators will charge the customer for opening the mobile boarding pass according to the customer’s Internet data package.

At the airport the customer can go straight to the security control if travelling with only carry-on baggage. If the passenger needs a paper boarding pass, it can be picked up at the Baggage Drop desk, where checked baggage also can be dropped off within normal check-in times. At all other airports in Finland, except Helsinki Airport, checked baggage is left at the normal check-in desk.
