Chicago, or as I like to call it "the clean New York City", is a majestic city located right on the harbor of Lake Michigan. During my short, 2 day stay in the windy city, I made sure to take in the most well-renowned attractions that it has to offer. Whenever I am in a city for a short amount of time, I usually find a double decker bus that I can hop onto. These types of buses drop you off at all of the most famous attractions in any metropolitan city and circle around on a very convenient schedule. We started off our trip with a quick visit to Navy Pier. An old navy training base, this tourist attraction has a giant ferris wheel right in the center of it, along with some touristic shops, restaurants and rides for little kids (or adults who are little kids at heart). I also made sure to make my way over to Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium, which are both located on the Chicago Boardwalk, letting you see the entire skyline of the city. As cliche as it may seem, it is a tradition to get to the top of the tallest building whenever I'm visiting a new city. Even though the Willis Tower is the tallest building in Chicago, I decided to visit the John Hancock Center ($20 admission for adults), where we got a 360 degree view of Chicago from the 94th floor. Because it is summertime and the weather is pristine, I found myself drawn to having breakfast and lunch in the many parks the city has to offer. I visited Millenium park, as well as Lincoln and Grant park. Grant Park was my favorite because it contained the breathtaking Buckingham Fountain, which is one of the largest fountains in the entire world. On our tour, we did hear about the horrible Chicago fire that destroyed the majority of Chicago's early architecture. Because of this tragedy, the city has invited multiple creative and innovative architects to design a huge array of awe-inspiring building all throughout the city. Mixed in with all of the modern buildings, there is only the water tower that managed to survive the fire. This bit of historic architecture, lost in a sea of glass and mirrored buildings is also a sight worth visiting. And finally, no trip to Chicago would be complete without a quick photo session at the Cloud Gate, otherwise known as "the bean". It's a huge sculpture made out of mirrored pieces and the giant structure attracted more tourists than any other place in the city. Till next time Chicago!
