The Academy of Hospitality and Tourism Names Joan Remington 'Tourism Professional of the Year'

oan Remington, Interim Dean of Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, was named winner of the 20th annual Tourism Professional of the Year Award.
The award was presented on November 19, 2010 by the Miami Dade Public Schools Academy of Hospitality and Tourism during the South Florida Tourism Professional of the Year and Business & Education Champion Recognition Award Luncheon inMiami, Florida. Awards are presented each year to professionals who provide resources, leadership and advocacy to Academy students, preparing them not just for graduation but for lifelong learning. FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is one of the leading programs of its kind in the world offering those studying hotel, foodservice and travel-related industries an unmatched experiential learning environment.

“Working with the bright and eager students at Florida International University’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management is an extremely rewarding experience, and to be recognized as the Tourism Professional of the Year by theAcademy of Hospitality and Tourism is an incredible honor,” said Dean Remington.

Dean Remington brings a wealth of hospitality and tourism business and academic experience to FIU’s School of Hospitalityand Tourism Management as Interim Dean. Prior to joining FIU in 1990, she was an executive with the Sheraton Corporation of the Pacific in Honolulu. Her academic career began at Chemeketa Community College, in the field of Hospitality. Simultaneously, she was an industry consultant for U.S. hotels, tour companies and destination resorts, and was elected Commissioner to the East Salem, Oregon Water Board. Dean Remington is a member of the US Travel Association and a published writer, lecturer and consultant.
