Eurail Group Announces Fourth European Rails of Peace Project
Selected Students From Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia are Travelling This Summer With InterRail
Eurail Group G.I.E. is partnering for the fourth time with the 'European Rails of Peace Project' organised by the Glocal Forum in Italy. This joint programme was made possible by the Solidarity Fund for Youth Mobility* and aims to promote peace in the Balkans and free youth mobility within Europe.
More than 150 young citizens from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo and Serbia have been selected on the basis of their age (18-25). This year, 21 of these students originating from the Balkans were granted a complimentary InterRail Global Pass valid for 22 days of unlimited train travel across Europe. The project has just started at the University of Rome where the group will attend a series of workshops for six days (whereby national identity, cultural heritage and the role of the media are topics on the agenda). Once the workshops have finished, the youths are encouraged to travel around Europe with InterRail and it's hoped that this will contribute to inter-ethnic dialogue and understanding.
Eurail Group and the Solidarity Fund for Youth Mobility are committed to explore and expand opportunities to support less privileged youngsters throughout Europe. "The InterRail experience has been a tool for understanding and respecting other cultures for decades, thus the ideal platform for encouraging peace within the Balkans", explains Ana Dias e Seixas, Eurail Group's Marketing Director, "and, we intend to broaden our scope to include other nationalities in this programme during the coming years."
The InterRail Global Pass, valid in 30 participating countries, enables travellers to enjoy the diversity of Europe's rail offerings. Rail travel provides a uniquely 'interactive' experience and each passing mile can develop a stronger sense of individual freedom. InterRail offers the visitor countless travel opportunities ranging from modern high speed trains to the slower local trains, thus allowing pass holders to appreciate the stunning scenery while being absorbed in the local way of life.
