Hotwire Reveals Canadian Hotel Rate Report for June 2010
Continued Strength of Canadian Dollar Fuels Bargain Hotel Rates
Hotwire.com®, a leading discount travel site, today announced the results of the June 2010 Hotwire® Canadian Hotel Rate Report, which features the top five cities in Canada where hotel rates have dropped the most. When combined with Hotwire's already discounted prices, the Hotel Rate Report helps guide customers to the destinations that will maximize their travel dollars. Banff ranks number one on this month's rate report with a six percent drop, while London and Halifax round out the top three, each with a five percent drop.
With summer fast approaching, this is typically the time when many popular cities in Canada see an influx of travelers. However, like last month, the Canadian dollar's strength against other currencies is affecting travel and prices throughout Canada. Canadian and International tourists alike are opting for destinations where their travel dollars stretch further, forcing many Canadian hotels to drop rates to help fill their rooms. This is great news for Canadians looking to travel domestically this summer.
Travelers can escape to favorite destinations like Niagara Falls, Halifax or Banff at amazing prices and without the crowds this month, a rarity during the summer season. Each of these cities is offering exceptional deals, with prices continuing to drop as compared to last year. And as long as the Canadian dollar continues to stay strong, travelers can expect to hotel prices to stay low.
Hotwire is able to find great deals because it works with hotels, airlines and car rental companies to fill unsold inventory. This means customers will find incredibly low deals on Hotwire, especially in cities like those on the Hotel Rate Report where prices are unseasonably low.
When compared to the same time last year, the top five hotel price reductions for June 2010 include:

"As we predicted last month, the strength of the Canadian dollar continues to affect hotel prices and travel flow into many of Canada's popular leisure destinations," said Clem Bason, President of the Hotwire Group. "This means that travelers to Canada can enjoy many of their favorite sites without the large crowds or high prices."
About the Hotwire Hotel Rate Report
The Hotwire Hotel Rate Report will run results during the first week of each month. Results are calculated by looking at Hotwire stay dates for select regions in the current month, and comparing prices in the current month against Hotwire prices in the same month in the prior year. Prices are compared within the same star rating categories for consistency, and the percent change in price for each region is generated as an overall average of the changes in those categories. The prices in the chart above are examples for a particular star rating category within that market, and actual prices may be higher or lower than the example that is provided.
