30,000 Pounds of Supplies to Earthquake Victims
American Airlines supports relief efforts in Haiti and implements bag embargo to the region for 30 days
AMR Corp., the parent company of American Airlines and American Eagle, is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide aid to people affected by Tuesday's earthquake in Haiti. AAdvantage members can help by donating to the Red Cross, and donations will help the not-for-profit organization provide shelter, food and other assistance to earthquake victims.
Starting on Jan. 14, 2010, AAdvantage members can earn a one-time award of 250 bonus AAdvantage miles for a minimum donation of $50 or 500 bonus miles for a donation of $100 or more to the American Red Cross through Feb. 28, 2010. Check AA.com for details.
In addition, American and American Eagle have already started sending aid into Haiti to provide relief for its more than 100 employees who work at Toussaint Louverture International Airport and for assistance at local hospitals in Port-au-Prince. Three American Eagle aircraft arrived in Port-au-Prince today providing 30,000 pounds of supplies, including water, food and other non-perishable goods. Three relief missions each day are planned for Thursday and Friday. Employees throughout American's system have already set in motion efforts to aid earthquake victims by raising funds and providing assistance.
"Help is urgently needed in Haiti. By partnering with the American Red Cross, we can ensure contributions will support timely efforts to provide much-needed assistance to the millions of people affected by the earthquake," said Peter J. Dolara, American's Senior Vice President - Mexico, Caribbean and Latin America. "We invite our customers to join us in supporting the American Red Cross, and it is with our deepest appreciation that we acknowledge their generosity with this opportunity to earn AAdvantage miles."

Bag Embargo to Dominican Republic and Haiti for 30 Days
In an effort to ensure all customers' bags are accommodated on their scheduled flight, American Airlines said today it will impose a 30-day bag embargo on all excess, oversize, and overweight baggage on flights to Santo Domingo, Santiago and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. This embargo will also apply to Port-au-Prince, Haiti, when service resumes there.
"American and American Eagle's intent is to provide the best customer service possible and to consider the needs of all passengers," said Peter Dolara. "There are limits on the amount of baggage that can be carried in the cabin and cargo areas based on the size of the aircraft."
The embargo will be in effect between Jan. 14 and Feb. 14, 2010. For the next 30 days, customers traveling to these destinations will be allowed to check two pieces of baggage of normal checked-bag size and weight - up to 50 pounds and 62 dimensional inches each. Customers will also be allowed one properly sized carry-on bag.
Excess, oversize, and overweight baggage will not be accepted for flights to the destinations covered by the bag embargo. Sports equipment, such as golf bags, bikes and surfboards, may be checked as part of the total checked-bag allowance, although additional charges may apply.
