STR Reports Canada Performance for Week Ending 27 March 2010
The Canadian hotel industry reported increases in all three key performance measurements during the week of 21-27 March 2010.
In year-over-year measurements, the industry’s occupancy increased 3.1 percent to 59.2 percent. Average daily rate ended the week virtually flat with a 0.2-percent increase to CAD$120.75. Revenue per available room for the week went up 3.2 percent to CAD$71.46.
Among the provinces, Saskatchewan reported the largest occupancy increase, rising 8.6 percent to 79.9 percent, followed closely by New Brunswick with an 8.3-percent increase to 56.1 percent. Prince Edward Island posted the largest occupancy decrease, falling 8.5 percent to 38.6 percent.
Newfoundland experienced the largest ADR increase, up 6.0 percent to CAD$115.65, followed by Manitoba (+4.5 percent to CAD$108.75); British Columbia (+3.8 percent to CAD$127.52); and Saskatchewan (+3.6 percent to CAD$122.75). Alberta (-1.6 percent to CAD$130.32) and New Brunswick (-1.4 percent to CAD$106.12) posted the largest ADR decreases for the week.
Saskatchewan jumped 12.3 percent to CAD$98.02, reporting the largest RevPAR increase for the week. Three other provinces posted RevPAR increases of more than 5 percent: Quebec (+7.3 percent to CAD$70.05); New Brunswick (+6.8 percent to CAD$59.52); and Newfoundland (+5.3 percent to CAD$74.92). Prince Edward Island reported the only RevPAR decrease of more than 5 percent, falling 8.9 percent to CAD$31.41.
