Aerolineas Argentinas Started Buying New Aircrafts Again After 17 Years
The presentation of the Boeing 737/700 Next Generation coincides with the arrival of another similar planes to the country
Aerolíneas Argentinas has bought two B-737/700 aircrafts, one of which is already in the country and the other wil be delivered by the manufacturer at the end of this month. At the same time, another nine Boeing 737/700 aircrafts will be received in concept of leasing and they will enter the country in the following months.
The agreements include the B-737/700 and 800 models and are within the Process of Renewal of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral fleets.
The airplanes will be presented today at 4 P.M. at the Aeroparque Metropolitano Jorge Newbery – military sector – with the presence of President Mrs. Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, of the Minister of Federal Planning, Public Investment and Service, Mr. Julio De Vido: of the Secretary of Transport of the Nation, Mr. Ricardo Jaime and of the President of the Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral Board of Directors, Mr. Julio Alak.
The B-737 NG will replace gradually other aircrafts of the fleet, such as the B-737/200 and the MD-80, what represents the possibility of economizing in the operations, smaller costs of maintenance and low contaminant emissions.
Both B-737/700 are configured in different ways to optimize their domestic and/or regional services. On one hand, the LV-BYY, has 12 seats in Business Class and 116 in Tourist Class while, on the other hand the other, the LV-BZA, only has Tourist Class service with 149 seats.
The aircrafts also differ one from the other in their external appearance, due to the fact that the BYY has no "winglets" – extensions at the end of the wings – while the BZA does have it. The "winglets" offer diverse benefits as regards economy and range in flights of wide range, as in the case of the regional flights or those that fly to the south of the country, while in the short flights these benefits are reduced.
With the incorporation of the Boeing 737/700-800 an important reduction of operational costs shall be reduced due to, comparatively, these airplanes of new generation consume 30% less combustible per seat than the MD of the 80 series.
The B-737/700
The 737/700 has a range of 6.000 kilometres (3.200 nautical miles), that permits it to perform flights of more than seven hours. Its cruising altitude is 41,000 feet and its maximum speed reaches 0.82 Mach, while the economic cruising speed is of 0.79 Mach (853 KPH).
The aircrafts are equipped with two CFM56-7 turbines, manufactured by a joint venture of General Electric, from EEUU and SNECMA from France that are characterized by its low consumption of fuel and smaller maintenance cost.
These models incorporate a new design of their wings, of a cutting-edge technology, that increases their surfaces permitting an increase of the capacity of the tanks of fuel.
The Boeing 737 constitute the family of commercial jets of highest sale in history, with a request of more than 5.300 units, surpasses the number of airplanes in all its models of any other manufacturer of airplanes.
