Cornell School of Hotel Administration Dean to Be Featured at Arabian Hotel Investment Conference

Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration (SHA) is pleased to announce its participation in and sponsorship of the Arabian Hotel Investment Conference (AHIC), which will be held May 1 through 3, 2010, at the Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE.

“We are excited to be participating in AHIC,” said Michael D. Johnson, dean and E. M. Statler Professor at SHA, who will host a conference plenary session in front of 600 senior executives on Sunday, May 2. “Hospitality is a global industry, and our involvement in the leading investment conference in the Middle East highlights our commitment to growing a broad global platform.”

Johnson will serve as moderator of "The Future of Airline Demand, Booking Patterns, and Distribution in MENA," which will feature panelists Peter Baumgartner, chief commercial officer, Etihad Airways, and Murad Hajeebhoy, vice president of lodging, emerging markets, Expedia. Bob Alter, chairman of Sunstone Hotels and a graduate of the School of Hotel Administration, will also be present during the panel to offer a hotel industry perspective.

Now in its sixth year, AHIC brings together the biggest players and most powerful decision makers in the Middle Eastern hotel investment community through a series of presentations, panels, plenary sessions, and networking opportunities. The conference theme, “Unlocking Investment Opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa,” will focus on how to turn regional potential into commercial success.

AHIC 2009 attracted over 700 leaders of the hotel investment community who gathered at the Madinat Jumeirah for three days of learning, networking, and lively discussions. This year’s meeting is expected to be an even greater success.
